Job Description Summary:
The Health, Safety & Environmental Lead supports corporate and plant safety mission through daily management of safety processes and personnel. Provide advice, assistance and follow-up on company policies, procedures, and documentation. Coordinate the resolution of specific policy-related and procedural problems and inquiries. Also responsible for leading the root cause analysis on all safety incidents and provide input on corrective actions to prevent further safety related incidents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Training and Team Organization:
- In collaboration with the HR department, plan and Lead training programs ensuring compliance with Federal and State Law
- Record required training including State and Federal training and corporate training activities
- Conduct Safety orientation for new hires; facilitate safety meetings and conduct training for current employees
- Project Supervision:
- Helps prepare proposals for safety related improvements or specifications in case of new installations.
- Collaborates with engineering to ensure safety principles and behavior of external companies during installation.
- Perform SAT/FAT after installation of new equipment or change in process
- Supervises execution of advice and proposals to solve safety related discrepancies.
- Prepare and incorporate safety procedures.
- Will oversee and coordinate the Behavioral Safety Visit (BSV) program
- Will be responsible for leading the root cause analysis on all safety incidents and provide input on corrective actions related to any safety or environmental incident.
- Continue following up on corrective actions urgently until the issue is fully resolved.
- Department Leadership:
- Assist in managing on site security team
- Assist in managing WWTP safety and environmental concerns and events
- Conducts safety audits, inspections and accident investigations in a positive and collaborative manner
- Assist manager in oversight of the` safety committee team as needed
- Coordinate Focused safety teams to get employees involved in focused problem solving
- Supervise plant hearing conservation program
- Coordinate and oversee respiratory protection plan
- Continuous Improvement Plan:
- Contributes to quality assurance and complies with the measures and requirements specified by ISO based, GMP, HACCP and other quality systems if needed.
- Audit other Bel production sites internally as directed to ensure compliance of ISO standards, State and Federal law, and Bel Standards
- Continuously improves methods, proposes action plans to solve misalignments in safety and environment
- Monitors safety and environmental key performance indicators.
- Leads best practices in safety projects. Benchmarking. Internal Competition.
- Assist manager to ensure compliance with all Safety and Environmental Regulations
- Perform continuous monitoring of sound levels and time weighted average testing
- Drive change with improvement initiatives and surveillance
- Attends additional trainings to build knowledge and maintain proficiency of current laws to ensure compliance
- Safety and Standards:
- Ensures that all facilities comply with personal protection standards
- Implements the necessary safety resources and ensures their proper functioning.
- Analyzes risks and accidents in collaboration with departments.
- Assist in implementing necessary modifications in instructions and operating procedures related to safety.
- Ensures application of change management principles to avoid accidents connected with change due to lack of planning and proper communication.
- Communicate, coach and enforce the company's safety policies and procedures.
- Follows all Good Manufacturing Practices as stated within the policy
- Follows all Safety rules & procedures by working safely and ensuring safety of others
- Follows all food safety procedures
- Follows all environmental protocols as applicable
- Follows all sanitation procedures and work instructions
- Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Minimum degree and experience required:
- Bachelor's degree in safety, business-related studies or equivalent related work experience preferred.
- 3 to 5 years professional experience.
- Experience in manufacturing setting
- Thorough knowledge of the ISO, HACCP, quality management systems and continuous improvement methods.
- Good knowledge of safety and environmental regulations
- Specific Competencies Required:
- Strong written and oral English language skills.
- Computer skills (MS Office, e-mail).
- Good knowledge of safety laws and regulations (OSHA).
- Presentation skills.
- Project Management skills
