Job Description Summary:

 

The Project Safety Supervisor  will serve as the primary Bel Group liaison and safety authority for all phases of the two-year construction project. This role is responsible for ensuring Bel Group’s safety standards are fully upheld from site preparation through equipment installation, commissioning, and start-up of new manufacturing operations. The role will oversee and coordinate safety activities between the general contractor, all construction and installation subcontractors, equipment suppliers, and any other person/business associated with the project. The Project Safety Supervisor will ensure a safe environment for all Bel direct staff and third-party contractors throughout the project lifecycle.

 

They will provide advice, assistance and follow-up on company policies, procedures, and documentation. Coordinate the resolution of specific policy-related and procedural problems and inquiries. They are also responsible for facilitating the root cause analysis on all safety incidents and providing input on corrective actions to prevent further safety related incidents.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Leadership & Site Oversight:

  • Act as the main onsite safety contact and supervisor for Bel, maintaining authority among general contractors, all subcontractors, and equipment suppliers.
  • Actively participate in project leadership meetings and liaise directly with all site safety representatives.

Training & Compliance:

  • Develop and lead site-specific risk prevention and safety training programs.
  • Conduct safety orientations and organize regular safety awareness briefings for all personnel (Bel and third-party).
  • Ensure all staff and contractors understand and consistently follow Bel and general contractor safety rules.

Site Access & Contractor Management:

  • Review and provide input on site access, circulation, yard layout, and contractor workspace arrangements to minimize risks.
  • Supervise and coordinate safety protocols among all contractors, with emphasis on safe management of simultaneous operations.

Safety Inspections & Incident Management:

  • Conduct frequent site safety inspections; document, report, and ensure correction of non-compliance or hazards.
  • Lead incident investigations using root cause analysis, develop corrective/preventive action plans, and oversee their implementation.
  • Enforce compliance and, if required, disciplinary measures for repeated safety violations.

Communication & Reporting:

  • Maintain proactive and transparent communication with Bel Group project leadership, general contractor(s), and all contractors.
  • Lead or contribute to regular safety meetings and prepare formal safety reports, updates, and project safety KPIs for the project team.
  • Escalate critical safety concerns rapidly and effectively.

Coordination with Plant EHS & Regulatory Bodies:

  • Partner with Plant EHS to define/maintain safety and hygiene protocols for intersecting plant and construction activities, ensuring food safety is never compromised.
  • Oversee documentation and participation in equipment risk assessment, including support for FAT/SAT and installation phase.
  • Ensure emergency plans address both construction and active facility needs, including food safety or plant-specific concerns.

Documentation & Process Improvement:

  • Oversee daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Permit to Work (PTW), and safety documentation compliance.
  • Propose ongoing improvements and participate in risk assessment reviews as the project evolves.

Other Duties:

  • Support managers to ensure compliance with all Safety and Environmental (State & Federal) regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to maintain project and personnel safety.
  • Follows all Good Manufacturing Practices as stated within the policy
  • Follows all Safety rules & procedures by working safely and ensuring safety of others
  • Follows all food safety procedures
  • Follows all environmental protocols as applicable
  • Follows all sanitation procedures and work instructions
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Construction Management, Industrial Operations, or related discipline preferred.
    • In lieu of a degree, relevant work experience or a combination of education and experience may be considered.

Professional Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ professional experience in construction safety management; industrial and experience on large capital (>$20M) construction projects preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating safety with multiple contractors and suppliers.
  • Familiarity with US OSHA Construction standards and project-based safety regulations.
    • OSHA 30 or 10 Hour Construction Safety is preferred
    • CSP/ASP, CHST or international NEBOSH preferred

Required Skills

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with proven experience presenting to all organizational levels and enforcing compliance.
  • Ability to conduct thorough inspections, incident investigations, and deliver effective training.
  • Project management skills, including documentation, reporting, and issue resolution.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office required).

 

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Primary work in active construction and plant environments, plus some office duties.
  • Ability to work 40+ hours/week, with flexibility for construction scheduling needs.
  • Able to stand, walk, or move for long periods; lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Tolerance of hot, cold, humid, and loud environments.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE.
