Supply Chain Lead - A Shift - $31.09/hr

Job Summary:

The Supply Chain Lead/Flex is responsible for supporting the supply chain supervisors in leading day to day work activities of the material handling team on a designated shift. The Supply Chain Lead/Flex will also provide critical support filling in at Material Handler positions as needed. Key responsibilities of the Supply Chain Lead/Flex include coordinating shipping and receiving activities during non-standard work hours and verifying proper monitoring of the onsite fresh apple inventory to ensure proper fruit mellowing and adjusting the blend for production consistent with R&D specifications.

 

This position is for A shift: Sunday - Tuesday with everyother Wednesday from 7am - 7pm.

 

Job Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Support Supervisors and team members
  • Support supply chain team members during a 12-hour work shift by maintaining a consistent, visible presence in the warehouse.
  • Works in material handler positions as needed due to heavy workload or vacancies, including processing packaging put-aways, loading/unloading trucks, supplying production with components, and apple testing.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies and all applicable regulations. Reports violations or other concerns promptly to the Supervisor and/or Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Mentor and motivate team members to follow safe work practices, comply with GMPs and production standards while striving to meet performance objectives (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Morale, and Environment).
  • Assist the Supervisor in ensuring efficient operations. Make decisions independently related to operations, scheduling, fresh apple quality and blend conformance/non-conformance in absence of the Supervisor as necessary.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolution of day to day challenges and team member needs. Escalate to the Supervisor or appropriate party when appropriate.
  • Assist the Supervisor in ensuring effective communications by relaying information between the Supervisor, work team, and other departments.
  • Coordinate scheduled work activities as instructed by the Supervisor.
  • Monitor KPP boards, VPA boards, and process flow, using data indicators and material handler feedback to make recommendations for safety, quality and process improvements.
  • Investigate and ensure accurate reporting of non-compliant materials or supplies. Ensure accuracy of paperwork including timely submission to the Quality Department.
  • Actively observe and monitor training activities of team members. Provide detailed and appropriate feedback to the Supervisor.
  • Monitor 5“S” adherence and support continuous improvement initiatives. Facilitate implementation of new processes and strive for standardization of best practice application between shifts and other departments.
  • Assist the Supervisor with people, process and equipment root-cause analysis. Drive problem solving initiatives as needed.
  • Support the Supervisor with performance evaluations by making recommendations for ratings, opportunities for improvement and recognition for strong performance.
  • Arrive before the shift and stay after the shift, as necessary, to ensure proper communication and coordination between shifts.
  • Coordinate shipping/receiving activities during non-standard work hours and on weekends.
  • Enforces truck schedule in a professional manner.
  • Monitors the onsite fresh apple inventory and apple blends for production
  • Assists with the daily coordination of fresh apple reception, including sampling and inspecting/testing of truck loads.
  • Ensures compliance of Materne Fresh Apple Specifications during the reception process
  • Ensures proper storage condition of individual apple lots (ambient vs. cold storage)
  • Performs a daily inspection of entire fresh apple inventory to determine proper mellowness of fruit and create/communicate a daily lot lineup based on observations
  • Evaluates with Quality Control any rejected apples to determine final disposition
  • Adjusts the blend used in production to ensure quality taste and puree characteristics are consistent with published R&D recipes based on fresh apple quality and inventory levels. Collaborates with R&D to propose and validate any blends outside of the standard recipe specifications.
  • Ensures performance of regular inspections; including pressure test, Brix, pH on fresh apple inventory and records/reports findings
  • Ensures appropriate training of material handlers related to apple inventory management, receiving and testing procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned

Key Performance Indicator (KPI):

  • Appropriate blends created to meet quality specifications
  • Adherence to apple quality specifications at apple receiving
  • Proper monitoring of on hand inventory
  • Communication with purchasing on quality and needs for upcoming weeks

Position Requirements:

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred
  • Previous experience as a trainer, lead, or Supervisor in a warehouse environment is strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • 1-3 years of experience in and inventory control or warehouse position
  • 1+ year of experience as a certified forklift operator
  • 1+ year of experience working in a quality or food handling role

SKILLS

  • Demonstrated ability to perform intermediate math calculations.
  • Ability to synthesize data and information in order to make the best possible decision.
  • Must be proficient with basic computer functions and systems, including Microsoft Office Suite and inventory management systems
  • Demonstrated ability to diffuse tense situations in a professional manner and effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Must be comfortable enforcing policies and performance standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly in front of a group and give clear directions.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement tools and methodologies.
  • Must have the ability to complete and maintain Level 1 qualification in all material handler positions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to employee safety and food safety.
  • Solid understanding of inventory management, shipping, receiving, production and quality principles
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate proficiently in writing (including email) and verbally in English.
  • Independent, self-starter who can work without direct supervision
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and attention to detail
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional overtime as needed

PHYSICAL & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for an entire shift (8-12 hours)
  • Must be able to work outside in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, heat, cold, etc.
